Hey there! My name is Romy Gerring and I am the Vice-President of QUBCU for 2017/18. Originally from Banbridge, I attended Banbridge Academy (mighty, mighty BA) before moving up to the ‘Big Smoke’ Belfast five years ago. I am currently a 4th year medical student, having just returned to my studies after taking a year out to serve full time as a ‘ministry associate’ at my church, All Saints’ Church, in Belfast. I absolutely loved my year out, and I am really looking forward to this year ahead, continuing in the ministry of sharing the great and glorious news of Christ and his atoning death for us.
The Christian Union at Queen’s has played an important role for me in my faith during my time at QUB so far. Through the Small Groups in first year I made great Christian friends whom God has graciously and relentlessly ministered to me through – friends whom point me to Christ, his grace, justice, mercy and love; friends who also encourage me to live a life worthy of the Lord (Colossians 1:10) and to share his gospel at every opportunity.
I am looking forward to this year serving the CU, as it has such a crucial positioning here on Campus – we are the ones who can declare Christ daily on Campus! We are QUB’s very own Mission Team on Campus. Rather than having mission confined to a week in summer, it excites me for the opportunities facilitated through the CU to proclaim the eternal truths of Jesus throughout the whole academic year (and even beyond studies).
1 Peter 2:9 says “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” Here Peter is speaking about the local Church and its mission in proclaiming the excellencies of Christ – his saving powers! My prayer for this year is that CU would be excited to serve in this mission as well, right here on Campus at Queen’s, and that many would come to know and love Christ as Lord.
